If you just head straight to the woods it will be pretty rough, you will probably die of thirst, starvation eventually. Its doable but you will need some afew things from town. Mainly a saw, screwdriver, a cooking pot, tarp for a tent, ripped sheets and nails/twine/wire for building traps. The abundance bar is bugged, it doesn't refill until you try fishing there again. I don't know specifics on respawn, but the little lake by those three well fenced houses seemed to respawn to 100% every 3 days or so.
